What is Network Edge?

Network Edge optimizes, controls, manages, and secures application traffic across the network from distributed enterprise locations to the private and public cloud data centers. Network Edge also serves as a platform for deploying virtual network services that integrate with local edge compute to manage and control application traffic from users and things.

At Its Core

Software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) and complementary Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) are the core enablement functions for Network Edge, service chained to support application traffic at the edge and the cloud.

SD-WAN leverages the benefits of the cloud, the bandwidth of Internet and any other enterprise network infrastructure. SD-WAN delivers high performance, real time applications (such as voice, video and data), optimized QoS and access to cloud applications, quickly and cost effectively from every location across the enterprise.

Where It Happens

Network Edge functions run on a range of hardware platforms from a single integrated appliance to clusters of server class computers. Components include a physical or virtual edge, set of distributed multi-tenanted gateways, and a multi-tenanted orchestration tool that centrally manages the functions.
