Today we posted a Q2-2015 update to our VeloCloud Internet Quality Report. This update represents findings from data collected during the first half of 2015, from VeloCloud deployments in the US and UK. This is the third edition of the VeloCloud Internet Quality Report. The data set now comprises 24M records covering 130 cities and over 90 ISPs. This represents a 400% growth of records over the past 6 months.
This edition of the report reaffirms the findings that we presented 6 months ago in our first Internet Quality Report, and subsequently the Q1-2015 update. Our data set is rising steadily and we are convinced that enterprises are facing reliability and performance problems from using Internet as a WAN that can be reliably overcome with the right technology.
To recap, these are the key findings:
- Enterprises are now presented with a more cost effective WAN connectivity option, which is to leverage Internet links for their business WAN connectivity. This can be DSL, broadband, DIA, fiber, or even cellular connections. However, we found that between 17% and 25% of the time, the Internet cannot deliver the performance and reliability needed by enterprises to run real time applications.
- Internet performance and reliability vary greatly by cities, time of day, ISPs, and have no correlation with higher bandwidth.
- With Cloud-Delivered SD-WAN that provides sub-second steering and remediation, it is possible to fully leverage the Internet and still achieve enterprise grade performance and reliability more than 99% of the time.
